TeleBarbados Carlton will clash with BNB St Catherine in the final of the 2011 BCA Sagicor General Super Cup (50-over-a-side) championship at Kensington Oval on September 4 after contrasting wins in the semi-finals on Sunday. Set up by their faithful all-rounders and spin ‘twins’ in captain Derick Bishop and Kenroy Williams, who grabbed four wickets each, St. Catherine rushed to an eight-wicket victory over ESA Field Pickwick just before lunch at Dayrells Road, while Carlton, boosted by the presence of Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons, overcame a few hiccups to beat ICBL Empire by three wickets with ten balls to spare before a big crowd at Friendship. Empire were bowled out for 237 in 48.5 overs after winning the toss. Barbados and West Indies ‘A’ team all-rounder Kevin Stoute hit 97 off 112 balls including nine fours and two sixes. Left-arm spinner Dane Currency grabbed six for 40 off 7.5 overs, which earned him the Man-of-the-Match prize and seamer Adrian Caddle took three for 48 off ten overs. Carlton were given a brisk start by Dale Richards, who scored 66. Richards, who has played for both Barbados and West Indies, faced 57 balls and hit six sixes and four fours. Left-hander Kirk Gibson contributed 30 and Simmons made 28 in a second wicket partnership of 74 with Richards as Carlton passed 100. Skipper Khalid Springer and immediate past captain Marlon Graham kept cool heads at a crucial stage to both finish unbeaten on 23 and 15 respectively in their eighth wicket partnership of 40. It will be the sixth final for three-time champions St. Catherine in the 37th year of the island’s top one-day championship while Carlton will be appearing for the eighth time after winning the title twice including the last to be contested two years ago. That 2009 season was a marvellous one for Carlton in the limited overs competition as they also lifted the second ever Sagicor General Twenty20 championship - both under the captaincy of Graham.
